The back is of two pieces of relatively plain maple, cut on the half slab. The ribs and scroll are of maple similar to that of the back. The purfling, instead of the more common wood inlay, has been marked out in black paint or ink. The belly is of two pieces of spruce with a generally broad annual ring displacement. The varish is of a full red-brown color over a stained ground coat.
